Growth exposes the limits of Excel
In recent years, the number of member companies in the association has grown sharply. As a result, the need for management control and financial control became obvious.
Nathalie Vienne, Controlling Manager, describes what she found when she arrived:
“When I took up the role, each of our more than 2,400 members was invoiced individually, every month. The process wasn’t automated, and processing invoices could take up to 3 months.”
At the time, she noticed: “Despite a very detailed chart of accounts (there was one account per employee), all the reports were built in Excel.”

The trigger
Faced with these Excel reports, Nathalie decided to set up an analytical accounting structure, with:
- cost centers;
- and monthly closings.
After these changes, Nathalie submitted a report just before her vacation… Unfortunately, it contained errors. The cause? Too many manual steps in Excel and inaccurate monthly closings.
That was the trigger. After this, amfori’s finance team realized they needed a reliable system that could adapt to their analytical accounting. That is where the EMASPHERE platform came in.

Nathalie sums up the situation:

amfori is a non-profit association, so it does not aim to generate profit. Instead, it seeks to allocate as much of its income as possible to its work in the field, to multiply its impact.
Nathalie explains why accurate financial forecasts matter so much to amfori:
“Our association’s actuals and forecasts absolutely have to be very close, because this affects our entire value chain.”
